Aside from being known as that sinking building, the Leaning Tower of Pisa is also known for being the biggest prop mankind has ever tried to get creative with in pictures.
It’s pretty much expected that if you visit Pisa, you have to take a picture with the Leaning Tower in some way. It started with people simply smiling as they “struggled” to “push” the tower upright. And then, it progressed into a quest to bee crazier and more original with your pose.
If you’re tapped for ideas, here are some things to help you think of a perfect picture that all your friends will be talking (or laughing) about:
1. Step out of the picture…literally
A guy on my Top Deck tour decided to forgo being in his pictures and spent time trying to pick Pisa up, poking it, fitting it between his fingertips… you get the idea. He ended up winning the photo contest on our trip. When in doubt, step out.
2. Use a friend
Group pictures are always way more fun. Use your combined brainpower to come up with poses you could never do on your own
3. Look to your hobbies
Are you into baseball? Pretend Pisa’s your bat and take aim at an imaginary curveball. Or maybe you’re a black belt? Use your best roundhouse kick to put Pisa back into place.
4. Go with what’s trendy
Look to the trends or pop culture to come up with that original pose. Planking was a popular one on my tour, but why not go with something slightly less ridiculous, like a move from Beyonce’s “Single Ladies”?
5. Be cheeky
Whether you’re giving the tower a kiss, getting jiggy with it or getting sexy with it, never underestimate what giving Pisa a little love could inspire.
I used #3 to come up with my pose as I’m a fan of hot yoga. Any guesses as to what it’s called?
KB Travel Tip: Stand in one place and once you’ve got your pose, don’t move. Whoever is taking your photo should move around until they get the money shot with you and the tower. Don’t forget to return the favor!
